I have a high school senior who will be heading to college next year. We were looking to by him a later model ('02) american car with 90-100K miles on it. He wants us to buy him a 1985 300D instead. The car is in good condition and has been very well maintained mechanically. It has 280K miles on it. We are concerned that this car will not be as reliable as a newer car and will be much more expensive to repair. So which would you buy your kid?

 

The car is bullet proof. I get about 32mpg with mine. Good choice
Regular maintenance parts are reasonable and can be found at you local parts
store.
