617 Poser

617 Poser
I was told that this is THE place to get technical information for Mercedes. I have two questions:
I had a 79 300TD with the 617 NA 5 cylinder diesel. The motor outlived the car and I am now putting the engine into my 1972 Land Rover Series III. I have an adapter plate to match up the engine and the transmission and the engine swap has been done before succesfully, so far so good.
I am replacing the flywheel from the auto gearbox on the 617 with the flywheel from a 616 manual gearbox. I am using a 616 clutch and pressure plate, no problem there. Question 1: Do I use the 12 flywheel bolts from a 617 or a 616 for this application? and I took the flywheel off of the 617 before I understood the importance of marking the position on the crank. I can take the 617 flywheel and the 616 flywheel to a machine shop and have the 616balanced to matchthe old one but how do I figure outwhat the proper position on the crank should be since I did not mark it?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
