400 CDI total breakdown
My S400 CDI 2002 has a total breakdown after just 135000 km!!. One camshaft is broken and when the head is off we found rust in the cyliderwalls. Is this a wellknown problem? Engine has been running OK without any oil or water consumption.

RE: 400 CDI total breakdown
Where are you? Most of the members here are in US and 400 cdi never made it here.
Limited number of 320 cdi made it to few states and provinces lately, but I am still waiting to get one in California.
Diesel engine blowing at 135 000 km, is unheard of in Mercedes brand, but s**t happens.
Tel us more abot the car, before it blown?

RE: 400 CDI total breakdown
About me - live in Sweden. And the car was a fantastic one before it broke down. A V8 diesel 4 liter with 560 Nm gives power - but what does that help when the car stands at the garage. My old S350TD made 370.000 km before selling it. That was quality! But the new S400CDI after breakdown - shame Mercedes-Benz!!!

RE: 400 CDI total breakdown
A Mercedes diesel dying at 135,000km? What is this world coming to? Well it sounds like water or something was getting into cylinder wells. Mabye from a faulty or improperly fitted gasket or something from earliuer on that lead to to the total breakdown. But a Mercedes diesel dying at 135,000km? But anything can happen. (Now only if I can manage to win the lottoery.)
