im looking for to get a transmission filter for my 83 300sd now it seems their is 2 different transmissions how do i check which one i have?

or
Fits: / Transmission 722.416

i dont want to end up buying the wrong one since its going to be online.

 

what is a pan rail? also couldnt the vin tell ya what tranny is in it?
