Default 300d into 190d will it go?

Hi i just aquired a k reg 1992 i think 190d in mint condition only problem is that it wouldn't tow my small caravan it can only just pull itself, now i have also just aquired a 1989 124 300d saloon in fair condition and bought mainly to pull the caravan, i have just been thinking and ill put the question to you, would it be possible to put the 300d engine (non turbo ) into the 190d (non turbo ), i have done a lot of messing with mercedes in the past mainly on the 123 models, swapping engines etc, or would it be better just selling the 190 on. i am allways up for a challenge but dvla are a bit more strict nowadays about this sort of thing than when i used to do it 20 years ago

If you're going to the trouble of fitting a 3L into a 190 it should be turbo to make it worth the effort, otherwise get a 190D 2.5turbo or swap in the 2.5L turbo engine into it from a 250D (which would be a near straight swap).
hi thanks for that, i am used to doing different engine swaps i once put a old style 300d 5cylinder one into a landrover and even made my own conversion plate, i think that i am more worried about dvla i suppose i should ask them and see what they say, but thanks for your reply at least i know that it will go in
