This is a car that i'm looking at and i'm curious if a vaccum leak would make it not go into gear. This car rear ended a truck and he said afterwards it wouldn't go into gear. While I was looking closely I found a vaccum line off on the front right passenger side on top. Could this be the problem? On a side note he said it runs great but we couldn't start it because he doesn't have a battery. I plan to take a battery and look again and see if it runs well, and try to see if it will go into gear without him trying to raise the price on me! Thanks for your opinions.

 

Sellers are overly optimistic concerning the vehicles they are selling.

 

Isn't that the truth. It could easily be a simple fix and I intend to do a better inspection of the vehichle later today and hear it run. If there is anything else you guys can suggest I look for before purchasing this car it would help out a lot. Again the car is a 93 300D 2.5 Turbo 5 cylinder clean as could be inside and out except owner says it won't go into gear but runs great, and needs headlights, turn signals, hood, grill, radiator top cross bracket, and one maybe two electric fans in front. That is all I collected from my first inspection. I'm going back today with a battery to hear it run and try to get it in gear for a test drive.
