Hello All,
I'm new to the forum, and a first-time owner of a recently purchased 1993 300D 2.5 turbo diesel. While inspecting the air filter for cleanliness, I noticed that the top portion of the air filter housing includes a “flapper gate.” I’m curious if the gate is opened by the flow of intake air (which might impede air flow), or if it is opened by an electric motor within the housing? Does anyone know what the purpose of the device is? Any assistance provided will be greatly appreciated, and this is an absolutely wonderful forum.
