The shock tensioner on the engine drive belt assembly is going bad - this is the 3rd one I have had to replace in 240K miles. I was hoping to complete this task myself - does anyone know how to remove the bottom mounting bolt? When I back it out with a wrench, it strikes the water pump pulley before coming completely out. Thanks for any support you may have to offer.

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a mercedes diesel mechanic in the Raleigh, NC area? I am having trouble finding any expertise for a 20 year old car - especially the older diesels.

 

You will most likely have to remove the water pump pulley, or at least loosen it depending on how long the bolt is.
