Default 1983 240D: Manual Climate Control Fix?

Story: I bought the car, the AC worked. I fiddled with the climate controls, the AC now only blows hot air on any setting. Apparently, this is due to the manual climate control shorting or not connecting or something. The previous owner of the car said it did this to him and there was "just one spot" where it worked, otherwise it'd blow hot.

That leads me to believe there's something coming apart in the Manual Climate Control, like a soldering connection.

Question: Is there any guide for how to remove a Manual CCU and solder it back into working shape? Could I remove the Manual CCU and put an Automatic one in?

Help is much appreciated.

Where do I start. It is not a "loose" wire you can solder. Most likely its the servo and the servo is bad.
Its a "somewhat " of a common problem. If your system has push button it is most likeley the mono value first and the push botton controlssecond.
You can not take the dash apart unless you have before. Even if you had the manuel you would never get
the car back together. The job pays a technician 18-24 hrs at a dealer to fix. So think about it.
Good luck.

Okay, thanks for that information. I thought it might be something that's fixable myself with the manual (two *****), since there's a lot of info about how to remove the automatic (push button) ccu and resolder connecions to make it cooperate again.

The servo would have just randomly died on me while blowing cold okay and then being changed, without warning? That seems odd, but I don't really know.

I guess this is one of those things I have to live with unless I'm willing to shell out $$$ at this point, then?
