1983 240D Intake Manifold Question
Hi guys,
I have an 83 240D that I'm currently working on. I've had a string of diesels in the past, but this is the first time I have seen this -- a capped off elbow pipe screwed into the bottom of the intake manifold. What purpose did this originally serve?

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response.
1.The crankcase vent hose is connected to the intake manifold.
2.The oil separator is missing from this vehicle. Lord only knows how I will find one. There are junkyards a plenty around here, but 123 bodies have been rare lately. Use to, there was nowhere you could throw a stone and not hit one.
3.As far as the wrong manifold being attached, that is very possible. But, I am always nervous about removing a manifold; there is always the danger of breaking a bolt.
What do you think? Much obliged!
Attached are some better pictures.

That sounds great. Thanks!!!
It was only a 100.00 investment - another project I pulled out of someone's yard. I have a lot to do, yet. I gave up my mimosa yellow 77 240D and have been hankering to get another one on the road. This one may be it.
