1982 240D air/oil separator
My son just acquired a 1982 240D (his first car) and I was wondering about the air/oil separator. Is there any maintenance to do to those? Do they require any kind of cleaning or filter to change? This one is quite dirty on the outside with old oil at the base.
I can not seem to find anybody selling new ones; so I want to be be careful handling this one so as not to damage it. All advice will be appreciated. Thank You

There is nothing in it to maintain. Its primarily a valve to limit crankcase vacuum due to the EGR system choking the engine.
After changing all the fluids (including the brake fluid), the next maintenance that you should do is to disable the EGR and remove the throttle plate. Those two modifications will noticeably improve performance and fuel economy.

Is this type of oil separator also part of the EGR system? After I disable the EGR and remove the throttle plate, do I leave the oil separator hooked up or would I need to set up a different type of oil separator ?
