Default 1980 300SD won't start in cold weather

Replaced glow plugs, injectors. Once car warmed w/heater, starts OK. Will restart all day after that. Tried turning key until glow plug light went out. Shut off key, then tried again. No luck. 205,000 miles and timing chain has not been changed. Have had car 3 years, and this is first winter w/this problem. Any suggestions on parts to check?

Have you changed or checked the battery in the past three years. Battery life and cranking ability of a cold battery trying to turn overa stone-cold high compression diesel could be part of your problem. Do you have a lighter weight winteroil as well.Heavy weight summer oil puts more strain on thebattery. The only time my diesels ever let me down was on extremely cold days. Once started no problem. Eventually replaced both batteries. A trickle charger may provide some relief as well. I used to use a battery blanket heater as well to keep the battery itself at a better temperature.
