1972 220d fuel gauge problem
i recently installed a subwoofer in my trunk, and shortly thereafter my fuel gage began to work intermitantly and finally quit altogether. Do you guys think it could be an electrical problem maybe (I did ground my amp right next to an exsiting ground on the drivers side of that wall between the trunk and passenger compartment), or did it (the sub) just vibrate/break something loose in the tank? Where should i start to fix the problem? this is my first benz and i have no book on it yet? as stated 1972 220d.

RE: 1972 220d fuel gauge problem
The sender for the tank is on top, left side. Look to see if the wiring connector is loose/off? Most automobile fuel gauges will go to full if disconnected and to E if shorted to ground. By quitting, do you mean it stays on E?
