190D oil
Hi... I'm new to this forum and need some help. I bought a 190D 1987 normal aspirated low mileage MB. I love the car but noticed my oil viscosity has sudenly increased. a short history. I bought the car in the US and immediately took it to an MB dealer to have fluids changed. Oil and filter were changedusing Mobil 1 5W40 synthetic. No problems.4, 000 miles later I took it to a garagespeializing in imports and the oil was changed - unfortuately I did not specify which type adn they used a regular 15-40 oil. About 2,500 miles later I noticed the oil is thickening, and I got soem slight valve noise.
I also noticed the owners manual that came witht eh car is for teh 190E. Any suggestion on oil capacity, specifications and type of oil best to use in a low mileage car. Some people here say use synthetic (cold winters) others say never put synthetic int eh older cars. Help??

RE: 190D oil
Try Rotella synthetic. Truckers use it and look how many millions of miles a common rig has on it. That's what I've been using on my low mileage 190D and I haven't had any problems period.
With the oil capacity, just keep filling up until (on the dipstick) the oil is between the two notches.
