Default Problem with Becker audio 10 6021

Hi All! just a quick one - have picked up my first ever Mercedes yesterday - and loving it so far - a 2003 C class coupe in black cdi220 - with pan roof and leather. Just one slight gripe I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I notice that when it gets dark the display on the radio (becker audio 10 6021) goes light, then dark, then light, then dark........etc - its like it cant make its mind up if it should dim the display or not - it is fine during the day - nice and bright, and functions fine otherwise. Any ideas? Is it a fault with a daylight sensor or has the radio gone potty? - dont know if it helps but the auto headlights work fine. Thanks in advance for any help received.
Grant.

A quick update - which may shed some light on the radio situation - the auto lights DO NOT work properly - I tried today and they came on in broad daylight - in direct sun! So maybe a related issue?
