hey guys,
I'm trying to add an aftermarket sub for a friend in his C230. I noticed there are separte little 'subs' in the bottom of the rear deck. I tapped one of these to go to the hi-level input of the amp.
Should work, right? no.
The normal rear speakers don't work until i unplug the hi-level line, then they work even after I plug the sub in. I posted earlier in the wrong section after a guy just said tap that speaker wire and go asking for more info, but couldn't find any.
on caraudio.com I got this: "You cant do a loc on these cars, especially the sub's in the rear deck. Those speakers are crossed over inside the factory amp, which most of the time is mounted on the left hand side of the trunk behind the trunk panel's. You need to use an Audio Control LC6i, or a LC8i, to get the inputs for your sub amp."
I can't find an amp behind any panels in the trunk.[

help, i'm stuck.

I hope you've been able to determine whether you have an amp or not by now.
If you lift the cover for the spare tire you will likely see a connector just to the left of the spare tire that is wrapped in foam and has a red plastic cover covering the d-sub connector end. This connector would have gone to the amp which is usually mounted on the left side behind the carpet paneling.
The above links shows how to get to the amp, but if you see the amp cord wrapped in foam then you would not have one.
Cheers
