1993 190E for sale $5,500
For Sale 1993 Mercedes 190E, chassis 201, 228,400 kilometers showing, car located near Seattle, WA
Good condition. Fun little car. I want this car to go to an enthusiast who will keep her functioning. This is a low price point for a classic car (currently has collector vehicle WA state tabs which never need renewal- although I assume that ends with title transfer). With that designation this car is inexpensive to insure with Hagerty ($275/yr). What I don’t want is someone who needs a car and this price point equals all their money, but then can’t afford a repair and the car gets junked. This car is over 30 years old. It will need upkeep. This would be a fun addition for one who likes older German cars. This car was my wife’s daily driver for two years ending in the fall of 2022. She drove to Canada from Seattle several times per month as well a 25-mile RT commute daily. After one snow storm enroute to Canada she now drives a 2023 crosstrek. Since then, a lot of sitting.
The car has a rebuilt 3.0 liter engine (from a 1988 300) rather than the original 2.6. Great power. Again, a fun car to drive.
New in January 2024:
Battery, Rear Brake job - new rotors, all fluids flushed and replaced, new starter, fuse box cleaned and all fuses reoplaced, new idler pulley, New Michelin Defender tires ($650) in anticipation of this sale April 2024
Needs:
Antenna replaced - part included with sale
Right rear window switch replacement- part included with sale
The previous owner is the one who replaced the engine. It was a daily driver for their family and his son blew a radiator hose and knew if he just drove it home dad would know what to do. The resulting warped head led to engine swap/ rebuild. This fellow also stiffened the steering by adding a thicker sway bar than original. It extends slightly past the original fitting; it doesn’t rub against anything but makes alignment shops all excited. I have a 2k estimate for chopping the ends off and aligning the car. I don’t think shortening that thicker sway bar is necessary, but that is the next owner's call.
The car has a non-functioning JVC removable head stereo. My plan was to use Beckerautosound.com who rebuild original Becker radios with an upgrade to Bluetooth output. I do not have a Becker core for you.
Later I'll upload photos, including all the things wrong with the car - I like the climate of full disclosure often found on sites like BAT. Obviously, with the engine swap this will never be a concourse anything - but this is a cool little car. Also happy to share with anyone the mechanic who knows the car.
