'86-87 were the only 2 years this was made for US and only in the 126 body style. True there is a 350 SDL ('91-92?) but MB has trouble with it and is not as powerful. The 5 cyl is the most sucessful diesel of the era, but the 6cyl is a real performer. Mine is an 87 300 SDL and I will keep until the day I die if possible. I searched for a year and a half until I found mine. Be patient, they are out there and the parts are readily available. Just do an internet search for "300 SDL Parts" and you will find multiple companies.
By the way, $8000 is a fair deal for a low mileage, great condition 300 SDL.
