My Dad just bought a new car and he gave me his old car, a Red 1992 180E. Its not much of a beast but its in very good condition and looks pretty slick. Im a bit of a merc nut so i know all about this car (the poor mans 190e) and cant really complain considering i got if for all of $0.

What im wondering is are there any performance mods i should think of doing? I mean this car only makes about 90kw (about 120HP) and is a little 1.8l 4 cylinder job. I just want a little more oomph and acceleration in low gears, especially 2nd. It revs too slowly (auto tranny) in 2nd and makes starts from the lights a painful experience, is it worth changing the gear ratio to something shorter? Would a cat-back exhaust or even a full exhaust system do anything useful?

Otherwise i'll just get some nice wheels on it and leave it at that.
