1993 190E. The driver's side door lock is inop. The key will insert and turn in the lock, but the button will not pop up and the door won't unlock (thus all other doors won't unlock). The key and unlock mechanism works fine when used at the trunk. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks a ton in advance!

 

was there any pressure difference on feeling while unlocking the other door?

could be the catch?, linkage?, switch?, barrel?

prior to the problem, the key would turn with usual resistance to lift the driver's side door lock (with the others to immediately follow), with the resistance gradually shifting from continuous to resistance experienced just towards to the end of the rotation just prior to complete failure. Now the key just turns clockwise/counterclockwise with no resistance and no lock movement.
