where do you live that you have to carry a gun everywhere you go? the old west?

 

i got to protect ..my investments..they got crazy people down here on the bayou!you heard of JASON... got to be ready at all times,,

Why is it that when someone says that they carry a handgun on a regular basis do they almost instantly say "gee where do you live?" or "why do you need to do that?" . Does crime only happen in specific places? I'm sure that murders, rapes, robberies, home invasions, and the like happen from coast to coast in Beverly Hills as well as in Roxbury Ma.
