Default Possibly buying a 1985 380sl and have some questions..

Hi, I am def new here, did a bit of reading and other online checking and I thought maybe I would get some input here from you fine folks who know a thing or two.

I have an oppty to buy a 1985 380sl from an older gentleman and the car is in top condition aside from the ac not working. its got 120 thousand on it and I have driven it and started it a few times and it sounds great, drives great, the things Ive checked out seem fine, tho Im no mechanic, and its been maintained for the last eleven years by the same mechanic.
Nothing has gone wrong or been replaced according the the seller and he covered the history of the car and more with me. He is askin five thousand which is the only reason I am considering this. I am not much of a material person or car person but this is my dream car if I ever had one.

I am not to concerned about the ac just off, as I dont really ever use it so its something that I can put off for awhile but I'd like to get an idea of what that would cost and what the more common problems with this model are as far as the engine and repairs might go since thats a factor in my decision making process. If its gonna start costing a lot again and again, like any old car or car for that matter, in terms of higher cost repairs I'd say Mercedes would run me a bit more than others so I am taking that into account.

Any input would be appreciated. I've left out details but its been very wel taken care of, its in great shape, the seller is seventy seven so hes not able to enjoy the car as its difficult to get in and out of. It was a show car mostly and he drove officials around locally during special functions or parades and what not. its seeming to be a nicely unfolding process as far as inquiring and checking, as far as the price, and it being doable for me but I want to be wise about this in the long term and although my daily travel is very local, work and social are really just local for me, it would be my one and only, everyday vehicle and I just want to make sure that at that miles and the age of her that its a sound decision.

Thanks...
