I've never owned a Mercedes but always aspired to. I'm now seriously thinking about Mercedes ownership and looking at used C and E models. The difficulty is knowing what the difference is between these two models and which one to go for. Is it a question of build quality?

I just bought a used 96 c280 sport. It's a great car. The difference between the classes has to do with size... mostly. The E class is a full size car bigger engine more features more expensive ect. The c class is an introductory mercedes model that is a smaller mid size car with fewer available options.
I'm not sure on qulity but if you are looking for more luxury, and space the E or S class are the way to go. The c class will be more affordable but smaller and less luxurious.
