New Member & Part Request for 1995 C 280
I am a new member to this forum, and I had a question on a part. I have a 1995 Mercedes C 280 with 100K miles. When I bought it, I knew that the original owner bought it overseas, but I didn't realize the problems that could create. The ECM has gone out on it, and it has been impossible to find a replacement part as I have been told this is a "Gray Market" vehicle. The part #'s on these vehicles are not even listed in the North American Mercedes catalog (so I've been told).
That being said, I am desperate for help in trying to find a replacment ECM for this car, preferably refurbished as a new unit is approx $2000. I understand that this may be difficult to find, but in this day and age, I don't know why it cannot be done. I have contacted several used Mercedes parts dealers online, but to no avail.
Also, my mechanic was able to find several ECM's for a Mercedes manufactured for the U.S. Can a gray market vehicle have a U.S. Mercedes ECM rewired to fit it? Any information provided would be greatly appreciated.
Signed,

RE: New Member & Part Request for 1995 C 280
Dear sleepwalker, thanks for the reply,
The VIN # is WDB2020281F242101. Per discussions with my mechanic, he said the part # needed is 017 545 71 32. He told me that this was the Mercedes part #, but someone else told me it was the Bosch #. That is all unfamiliar to me, as I was not actually looking at the part. However, he did tell me that was the only part # on the ECM, regardless.
I appreciate you willingness to help out.
