I own a '73 and a '79 450 SL. The '73 is a great performer but has a few leaks and the interior is not in the best condition. The'79 has excellent interior, body and paint but it is not a great runner. It may be a case of too much polution control? I would like to improve the performance of the '79 and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Joe

Here in the Commonwealth of Mass, the seat of Democratic Liberals since the 18 century, once a car has reached the ripe old age of 25 years, you can do most anything you want to the engine, as long as you can pass the yearly safety inspection, you can actually make a tuner car, that is 25 years plus. Some inspection garages who talk the state CARB rules seriously, might give a quick look under the hood, but from personal experience, 25 years is the limit on pollution inspections.
