Hi everyone. I'm a new member as of yesterday. Something about me? I bought a brand new 600 SL in 1994 and Istill own it. I have driven,taken care of, and enjoyed this fantastic car for twelve years now. It has 53,000 mi. on it. This car is my daily driver and also my favorite. (I presently own a 93 Ferrari Mondial t cab., a 95 320 SL, a 2005 500 Sl, all purchased new.) I've also had the following new cars in the recent past; a 90 300E, a 90 500SL, a 97 SLK 320, a 2003 500 SL. As you can see I love Mercedes and SL's. I can tell from visiting this and other Forums That a lot of people are interested in the 600 V-12. Right now I think, and some others may believe ,that these are the best bargins to be had in the Mercedes market. Most of these people seem to be afraid of the cost to maintain them and this kind of information is hard to come by given how rare these cars are. I would glad to share my experience with this model. I also wonder if anyone here can tell me where to find out how many of these cars were actually produced each year?

 

Welcome to the site GDRIII. That's suprising that your 600 SL has so few miles on it. You can hardly find any Benz in that time period such as that.

 

I just bought a 1999 SL600 in immaculate condition. However, the idiot light for the shock absorber (or suspension system) keeps coming on. Any insight as to the problem would be appreciated. The car has only 16k miles on it.

Thanks for the welcome guys. The reason for the low milage on my 600 SL is because trade off a lot driving the 5 cars I usually keep at any one time. I only have 4 at the moment but I'm looking for a fifth. (I have a five car garage)

 

Dave, reguarding the idiot light for the shock absorbers. About 2 years ago the same thing happend to me. After a while it stopped on its own and I've had no problems.
