hello to all, im new here and trying to find out whats the problem on my 2001 E200 Saloon Kompressor. i just had this car six months ago and its been running excellent. engine diagnostic lamp just came on and the owners manual doesnt tell you much. i've check the engine oil, coolant, battery, and they are all ok.
any other ideas on what to do here? i know that this is getting close to annual maintenance, esp for tune up.

mostly it is the oxygen sensor that detects lean or rich mixture.

fuel quality and misfiring can cause this.

 

Or the MAS as the C Class is known to have quality problems with the Mass Air Sensors.

 

The lamp is telling you a system fault has been detected and stored. There are literally hundred of faults that will cause the Dignostic module to trip this warning . Go get the cars scanned for the codes and that will tell you what it has detected.
AutoZone does it for free..

 

Dalton: Probably the best advice, playing guess and replace parts with these cars, can be very expensive.

 

That's for sure ..
I see guys come in that have spent more on parts that their buddy said fixed his CE lamp than their car is worth, only to find the car had a vac hose leak...

Will AutoZone pull OBDI codes or just OBDII?

But some late OBD1 also have digital retrieve along with flash ..so AZ can get them [ only 94/95 yrs]
Otherwise OBD1 can be gotten with a simple led/sw tool
