Default c220 cdi fuel economey

Hello All

I need help, I have recently bought a C class 220cdi sport late 2005 reg but just out of warrenty, I have never owned a diesel Mercedes before, one of the reasons I bought it was of the engine and the excellent reviews it had recieved.
My problem is the poor fuel economy of the car it only manages late 30s mpg on the motorway, local driving late 20s early 30s.
I have had it checked by two different Mercedes garages with the diagnostics done by both and they both say there is nothing wrong with the car, no leaks, no injector problems nothing at all, I have even changed the MAF with no joy, it has full MBSH milage is 90K and in mint condition.
To me it seems a bit noisy too specially at idle when you switch off it also shakes.
Basically I have run out of ideas hence I am here if I have no joy here then I think I will sell it and go back to petrol.

Thank you in advance

OK, my 220CDi is a 2008 car. I get 42mpg tank to tank over the last 5000miles. Computer is also 5-10% optimistic.
