Hello to everyone I just bought a 1983 240D today. So you will probaby be seeing a bit of me on here. I paid $700 for it off the lot that I work at, the body is pretty clean (and no rust)except for a dent in the passenger door and the front grill bezel. The ODO says 175,659 miles but it is not working so the true milage is unknown. The engine still sounds nice and tight and flashes right up with no hesitation.There is workto be done on it, it needs front left wheel bearings there howling bad a front right upper balljoint,and a Master cylinderbecausethere is slow brake fade when the pedal is applied.

By trade I am a licenced auto technician but I work on Domestics and Japanese all day. The last mercedes Diesel I ever worked on amputated my left index fingerfrom the power steering belt so it seems very Ironic that I now own one.

I dunno if$700 was a good deal or not and What are the things I should be watching for,
I just dont want it to be another Audi and spend more time on jackstands than on the road.

I to am a first time Benz owner 87 300D and love it. Bought it for the love of diesels and to park my diesel dually truck 07 F-350. I enjoy working on a Benz getting it tightend up cleaned lubed the window regulators. Got the motor running like a clock[ got it with water in the tank and live in Pa when the temps were 10* icy] Hopefully put a fresh coat of paint on it this summer.
