1999 E320 Valve Cover Leak + Worn Out Boot
I recently noticed oil spots on my garage floor, where I park my 1999 E320 4Matic Wagon. I took to my mechanic, whom I have trusted for many years, but is not a regular Mercedes repair guy, though he gets his Mercedes info from close trusted friends who are Mercedes experts. When he put my car on the lift he determined that the oil leak was coming from the Valve Covers. He also noticed that the Axle Boot was also worn on the drivers side. He said that I should replace the Axle and not just the Boot alone as that is the best thing to do as the Axle could go shortly after and then woould be even more costly. He came up with a total cost of $700 to replace the Valve Cover gaskets and to replace the axle and boot. Does that seem a reasonable price for the parts and labor here, and should the Axle, indeed, be replaced? Any others that have had either of these jobs done on their Mercedes, and if so, I would appreciate your feedback? Thanks.
