1977 280 SE Vacuum problems
Hello all,
This is my first posting to this site. Very interesting stuff here. I don't know if anyone out in Mercedes cyberland can assist me with my problem. My 1977 280SE idles very rough (like it's missing) although several trips to the local MB dealer don't result in fixes - they tell me the car's in fine shape and seem to hesitate to look at it since it's so old. The car has also lost ALOT of it's power. At 134,000 original miles, I don't think it needs rebuilt. I have new plugs and wires on it also.
Another issue is with the AC - when the engine is under power, the AC (blower and all) shuts off. When the car is not under much power (below 2500 RPM), the AC blows normal. Another mechanic suggested to check the vacuum system and lines. I have spent many nights looking for any signs of loose or missing lines but have found nothing so far.
Wondering if the lack of power, rough idle and AC cutting out are all related somehow??? Short of tearing apart the dash, can anyone out there offer any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
Alf.

Sleepwalker is correct. AC systems are designed to shut down the compressor, when a certain amount of "load" is on the engine. You do have some miles on the car. But do find another shop, like a doctor always get a second opinion when one tells you your really sick?
