Default Washer fluid leaks when filled

We recently filled the washer fluid and it leaked onto the ground. Wedidn't overflow it, but once you could see the fluid and stopped filling, it still leaked out from somewhere onto the ground. Is there a defective seal at the neck of the reservoir bottle? Has anyone else experienced this?</P><edited><editID>JSquared</editID><editDate>38000.4253009259</editDate></edited>

Hey!</P>

I purchased my SLK Sport a few months ago and mine I've had to take back to the dealership at least 5 or 6 times already. Each time I've taken it back, they tell me whatever is wrong ISN'T covered under warranty (StarMark).</P>

The last problem was the washer fluid reservoir. It was empty so I stopped at the gas station to fill it again with more. When I did, it all leaked back out under the car instantly. I didn't overfill or miss the hole!</P>

I took it by the dealership and they told me it would be $250 to replace it and put a new reservoir tank in it. My God! It's PLASTIC! $250!!!!</P>

I'm having serious doubts lately about the Mercedes "quality". I just got the JD Power &amp; Associates survey in the mail this weekend, I can't wait to fill it out and let Mercedes get what's coming to them. I've had my car less than 6 months and already have taken it back to the dearlership at least 6-7 times! </P>

My suggestion to everyone: Buy a honda or something else, not a mercedes SLK.</P>

I purchased my car with about 9000 kms on it last summer. It will be two years old this April. I just had the thermostat replaced because it was stuck open and the car wouldn't heat up. I guess until winter came along, we didn't really notice that there was an issue there. When I was in for that work,I asked the dealership about the washer fluid leak, they said that they were aware and couldn't do anything about it. Maybe Mercedes needs to hear from the owners if thisis a widespread problem. What were the other problems have you been experiencing?

When I purchased my 2001 SLK230 in Oct. 2000, I checked the fluid levels about a month later. Since I could not see any fluid in the washer reservoir I thought is was low. After filling it, fluid began pouring all over my garage floor. When I took my car in for the first service schedule I was told this was normal and to only fill it outside of the garage. When I took it in for the second service last month to a different dealer I told them of this problem so they replaced the washer reservoir. I haven't checked to see if this corrected the leaking problem yet. The cost for this repair, which was under warranty, was 16 dollars for the part and .8 hours of labor to replace it. The 250 dollar price to replace thereservoir in bizboy's car seems out of line. </P>

My car is a 1999, with a star mark warranty, not the factory warranty.</P>

When I was buying my car, they told me the warranty would cover everything except trim items and the radio, which is fine and understandable.</P>

They now say my reservoir ($250 to fix) isn't under warranty and that there's nothing they can do about it. I bought it 4-5 months ago!!!</P>

I even called the US East Coast service rep from Mercedes Benz and it's been a couple of weeks and it's not fixed, no letter from them, no more returned calls after I spoke with him once.</P>

It's completely crazy! I should have bought a CrossFire, haha! <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"></P>

Look forward to hearing more from everyone!</P>

Kind regards,

Well, I can understand that you guys are MAD!...I would be to...good thing to say is that i have owned mercedes all my life..i am very pleased with there cars...I baught my SLK un July 2001. The car has had ZERO problems. The only thing, and it was 100% my fault...was a blown tranny...no body told me to make burnouts everywhere with my automatic and hit 100Shot NOS while at it. For me this car has been GREAT and has responded Excellent to all the mods I have done to it. My car is currently running 310-R-W-HP+100HPShot NOS...HRE Staggered 18's...H&R Cup Kit...BREMBo Gran Turismo kit up front...and rotors in the rear...my car has 35,000 Hard..mistreated...banging..clanging...drifting..a nd battle tank-beating miles. If you look at the car you would never notice and if you drive it...it idrives like a new car. My point with not all of them have problems...and like ALL CARS...and ALL BRANDS...some of them have diffects..others dont...unless its like

I have the same problem, pour it in, leaks right out. Mine is a 98. The annoying part is that orange washer fluid light.

Easy fix.
Remove inner guard trim behind right front wheel
(removing wheel helps)
Washer tube from top goes into bottle behind here. It has a seal where it enters bottle.
Easiest to clean up and reseal with silcone gasket maker or urethane glue.
Also check pump is pushed into its seat in side of bottle or it will leak.
You should be able to fill tube right up to top of neck.

Yes, it happened to me. I was able to get under the fender and reseal the leak. A drain plug on the tank was leaking. It did take a while, had to remove the wheel liner to get to it, like Bazzle says...

My 1998 SLK230 had a crack in the tank that would allow the fluidto gush out. 30 minutes to get to it (being careful) , alittle bit of glue and a small piece of duct tape... $0.00 Plus no will know about this shoddy fix..... until now. When/if it leaks again I'll fix it right...promise. Difficulty... if you can manage getting the wheel off you can handle it.
