thermostat on 99 slk 230
Hi Folks,
We have been having unusually warm weather here, and have noticed that where the temperature guage invariably reads at the 80 mark, it has been riding a little higher... ie b/w 90 and 100.... but, we have been in 35C temps.
Does this seem unusual or does this sound like a thermostat about to go?
If you thinl thermostat... is the replacement something that you would recommend for a punter?
Thanks
randy

hey sleepwalker,
thank you a always for your response...
i think however that you misunderstood my post.
80 is the normal temperature that i have noted... in 35C temps, however, the actual reading has been b/w 90 and just shy of 100 on the guage. i dont know whether this is normal.
if you think not, is it easy for a novice to change the thermometer? (assuming that this too would be your assumption?)
thank you again

i still didn't get it.
at 30C, the engine temp reading is 90C to 100C? the 30C is actual engine temp or outside temp?
the thermometer is the coolant temperature sensor itself. yes, easy to change.

These electric fan type cars like our SLK's can go near 100 sometimes before fan comes on. They do read hotter in higher ambient temps.
From what Ive read its still in the normal range according to MB as long as fan comes in at the higher end.
The sensor can be modded to drop turn on temp but thats only for if you are really worried.
