How to replace climate control light bulbs?

2001 320 SLK, AC controls are dark at night, dealer says $210.00 to replace the two bulbs!!! Says it's a two hour labor job. Can someone give me a tip on how to do the job myself please? THANKS!!

Been there, done that. I was told the entire dash would have to be disassembled! [:@]

On my '98 SLK230, the fan knob and the position knob both pull straight off. Beneath each is a small bulb under a small white plastic shield. Carefully push the shield aside, grasp the bulb and pull (I used needlenose pliers - CAREFULLY). Take the bulb to Autozone (or equivalent) and have them match it. I got 2 for $3. I used the needlenose to reinsert the bulb. Then pop the knobs back on.

I just saved you $207.00!! Send me a check :D

Thanks, I also asked the dealer to replace the left dome bulb while my wife was having the code reset on the radio, they told me the circuit board on the back of the dome light assembly was cracked and the complete unit had to be replaced, one hour labar, and $200.00 for the part. Well BS, I removed the assembly in about 3 mins, there is no circuit board, and the only problem was the bulb was gone, and on top of that, they somehow blew the fuse to that and the door locks, can you beleive how they try to rip people off!! Had they been honest, I would have been a customer for life. Thanks again.

Glad to help. Dealer service is necessary for some things, but many of the day to day things are pretty easy with the right help. This board, MBWorld and BenzWorld are tremendous resources for help and advice. [sm=groupwave.gif][sm=groupwave.gif]

Use plastic hose/tube to remove globes, no chance of breakage.
