'99 SLK-230 Radio stuck in MUTE ?

Default '99 SLK-230 Radio stuck in MUTE ?
I changed my battery, reset the radio code and now the radio powers up and is stuck in "MUTE" shown on the display. No sound, can't change anything with the keypad. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thanks.
