Default Why is a SL called SL ?

Did you ever ask why the SL is called SL ?
SL was originally for the German words "Sehr Leicht" (Very Light). Everybody knows that they actually are not very light and when the cars came to market the meaning was changed to "Sport Leicht" (Sport light).

Thank you. My son asked me, just today, what SL meant.

Mine weighs a heavy 4600 lbs or so wet with no one in it. No adjective or adverb will change that. When my car dies, all they gotta do is weld a chain to it and, viola, a ship anchor.

SL = Sweet Ride in the Japanese (Swreet Lide)

Man, you're going to have a long wait ... probably. No one knows what happened to Horsepower. He went riding off one day like Shane, into the sunset, and that was it. Gone. He must have sold all his road-rocket supercars and bought a Ford Taurus and a Mazda pickup.

Hi Lugnut,
back again...sometimes I've to travel around the world to earn some money to spend it again on cars....
I actually was in Japan but could not check the spelling on 'sweet'.
To answer the SLR question:
S Sport
L Leicht (light)
R Rennversion (Raceversion)
