I have a 1999 SL500 and recently I've been having a problem with the trunk release. I try to release it with the remote and also with the inside button and it doesn't open. I can hear a noise, that sounds like a motor when I try either way. I have to use the key to open it. Sometimes it works fine. Has anybody had this problem and how did you solve lt. Thanks

 

Sorry to say that this problem has been reported on other forums with no real answer. Mine seems to be worse if it is very hot outside. I just replaced the mechanism that lifts the trunk up. However, I don't think that helped.

 

Hello gentlemen. I'd like to find a way to get into a trunk that will not open via remote OR key. From my searching, it appears that the the electric/vacuum lock mechanism is fine, but the actuator is completely inoperative. This unit is a 96 SL500. Is there any access to the trunk if I remove the hardtop and raise the rag?
