Exclamation Trunk fire in 500SL

I just had a trunk fire in my 2003 500SL while it was in the garage at night. I believe there are others that have had this serious issue. My fire started from the module box in the right side of the trunk that may be the battery control module (BCM). I am upset not only for the loss of the car but that if it happened at 2:00 am instead of 8:00 pm when I could put it out I probably would have lost the house or worse. I believe that Mercedes has liability regarding the fire: I think they were aware of the problem. I would like to hear from anyone that has had this or similar experience with their post-2003 500SL. My email is ajones250@aol.com. Thank you.

Default Trunk fire ‘03 SL500

Hi, I have a 2003 SL500 in pristine condition. Recently had a trunk fire after briefly in heavy, unexpected rain, with the top down. It seemed fine, but a week later none of the gauges came on. When I checked the trunk I noticed there was a fire. I had it towed to Mercedes and they said the repair would be $28,000. My insurance company won’t pay, even though I have full coverage. Any suggestions?
Sincerely,
Woodrow Harrison
