Default R129 Bose speaker replacements

My 97 R129 Bose speakers in the doors are in need of replacement. Any advice of where to source these? Should I order from MB, Bose, or are aftermarket speakers just as good or better and available?

I have not taken the door panel off yet, just looked at the lower speakers by sliding the speaker cover off which leads me to also ask if the door panel removal is difficult or not? Does anyone have the steps for remvoing the panel?

Aftermarket speakers will be cheaper and sound better than MB or Bose replacements. The R230 has a 6.5 and 3.5 inch speaker in each door with the frequency distribution done at the amp (not sure on the sizes for the R129). I replaced mine with JBL GTO series which can work at 2 ohm, which some factory systems run at and they sound great with no other modifications. The JBL GTO's are direct factory drop-in replacements that took almost no time - remove door panels, unscrew stock speaker enclosure, replace drivers, plug back in.

james b. lansing used to be a high end stereo speaker in the 60's. i have a pair in my home 15" woofer & 075 ring radiator with crossover network they still sound great!

i don't know much about the product line today though, but if i need speaker replacements in my '99 i will keep your post in mind.
