1991 300SL [/align][hr]

Hi. I drive a 1991 300SL with just under 70,000 miles on it. The problem is, I just got it and don't know much aboutit. [/align]1)If you look at the picture of the engine, you'll notice a large gap to the left of it, is that supposed to be there? I've never seen another car like that before. [/align]2)I've never seen an SLwith a dash that doesn't match the rest of the interior. Similarly, the airbag doesn't match with the rest of the leather on the steering wheel, which I'm guessing shouldn't be like that. [/align]3)I wanted to know if I could change the bulbs behind the instrument panel and shift gate to colored ones and get a blue display, or would I have to tint the displays themselves, and if I could just change the bulbs, what size bulbs does it take?[/align]4)Does anyone know where online I can get the blue needles for the instrurment panel?

the engine compartment looks normal. however the steering wheel does look a bit different. do you know if the car has ever been hit in the front? does the airbag look newer than the rest of the dash? you might check with a dealer to see if that cream color is still available or if it ever was. if you were able to find blue lights for the instrument cluster that would leave a bunch of others to replace from the door switches to theclimate control etc. that would be a project. however the instrument cluster lights are pretty easy, cause the cluster just pops out with the proper tools.

 

The engine compartment looks fine. They are very roomy with a straight six cylinder motor.
