Oil pan plug/gasket

Oil pan plug/gasket
Last year I hit a speed bump too fast and hit the oil pan. It made a dent right next to the plug. The dealer is trying to talk me into a new pan, oil sensor, etc. I have watched closely the amountI loose and where it comes from and it looks like it is just coming from the plug. Does anyone know if I could justhave the plug replaced and if so, would it be necessary to put in a new gasket and would that require removing the pan to get inside or does the gasket go outside or possibly not needed because the plug is justbent a little and letting a small amount of oil out? Thanks

I doubt a new plug would help, you can round them off changing your oil otherwise they are pretty tough. the oil plugs do come with a metal gasket if you decide to try it. You might try a hard rubber gasket under the metal gasket that's already there. don't try it by itself. you may still need to get a pan. unless your oil warning light is coming on I don't know why you would need an oil level sensor.

RE: Oil pan plug/gasket
It is simple to try a new plug and gasket. But if you are leaking oil after hitting a bump, then I would guess there may be a hair-line fracture of the oil pan. This can be repaired by draining the oil and applying J-B Weld which is available from Walmart or an auto parts store.
If you decide to have this problem repaired professionally, on no account should you go to Fletcher Jones, in my opinion. You will save considerable money with a good independent.

RE: Oil pan plug/gasket
Ihave to make a correction. The new oil plug does not come with a new washer gasket. At least mine new plug did not and it is still in the package. the oil filter kit will.
