Default Location needed for windshield wiper relay switch

My windshield wiper when set to the delay mode will work a few times then stop halfway only to start up again. When I turn the wiper off it will just stop at the present location without going back to the normal off position location. However, when I turn them to low they work fine but I still have to stop them right about where they need to be in the off position or they will just stop again. My Mercedes service man thinks it is the relay switch and if simple enough do it myself.
Thanks
