Hi,

Does anyone know of any folks that have put a 5 or 6 Cyl Diesel (benz) engine/tranny in to a W107 chassis?? Will it even fit?? The stock engine for the W107s is up to a 4.5 liter and Im looking at putting in a 3-4 liter?

I have heard there are a few folks in the country that do the swaps. If anyone has heard of a place or person pls let me know. thanks Chris p_butter2112(at)yahoo.com

 

Hi ForcedInduction. You seem to be the source of all knowledge on this site when it comes to anything Mercedes. I have an opportunity to buy a 1992 300TE in really nice shape. I really wanted an early 80's 300TD, but can't find one in reasonable shape within my budget. Question is; If I buy the 300TE, drive it until I find a decent turbo diesel from an 80's 300D, will it be reasonably straightforward (realistic) and economical to swap the gas engine out for the diesel?

Would you buy a 1992 300TE? Anything I should be aware of?

Thanks for that. There is no such issue in Canada that I am aware of. That said, do you have any experience with such a mod? Is it a bolt in replacement?

If this isn't an easy conversion, can you advise me whether you would buy an early 1990s 300TE or TD. What about the older early 80s 300TD? any help is really appreciated.

I am also considering a engine swap. I have a 87 td station wagon with a ~ 20,000 mile engine and transmission. The body is sort off toast, so can I swap it into a 96 E300d, transmission and all?
