Default CD Player and Radio for an 87 560SL

I have a 1987 560SL and would like to replace the exisiting original radio (Becker Grand Prix) w/ cassette tape player with an AM/FM and a CD player that was designed for this car. Did the 560SL's ever have a radio and CD player as original equipment? If so how do I obtain one? Can it be retrofitted to the car?

If not do you have any after market recommendations?

Default RE: CD Player and Radio for an 87 560SL

Don't know about CD players in '87 but if you really want to have a better sound, save the Becker if anyone wants to return it to origianl, and install a modern unit. There is nothing that has advanced more in the past years that audio systems (except perhaps video technology).

Just about any modern stereo can be made to fit since the space in the dash is standard. I recently put an Alpine CDA 9833 and Alpine speakers in my wife's 450SL. Plugs right into the original power antenna. Replaced the front speakers and installed a pair of 6x9's under the rear ledge panel after perforating the plywood and re-laying the carpet on top. Can't even tell it's there and no protruding speaker frames. The radio slot is small so I didn't try to go for a multi disc changer but the Alpine will play MP3 CD's so she can copy about 8 regular CD's on one disc and go all day.
