Default '94 SL500 Engine Running Rough

Hi all

Have read through some threads and you guys have some serious knowledge and experience betwen you. Should start a forum workshop and diagnose over the net. can i plug my car into USB port and send to you. No, seriously now would appreciate some feedback on problem issues with my baby.

Problems: When starting alwyas take 10 swings never more never less. hot or cold. only time its diff is when stalls9Yeah ill get to that one) then starts straight up.

So Far: crank positon sensor faulty. tested. working fine. break in signal to ecm apparently the break is at the tranny pack/spark pack (Part no: 0125455732) £700 to replace and cant confirm this will cure it.

Also: idles really rough and hesitate on take off sometimes stalling. very eratic but probably 30-40% of driving time. only happens at below 2000rpm. was told faulty throttle body. repalced TB. problem is no different. ow have been told faulty ecu not actuating throttle boby correctly at low RPM but fine at cruising.

come to think of it my fuel ec is terrible, thought just because it was v8 (280km on 65litres) every time.

Dont know what to do now. tranny pack is £ 700 uk ecu is £1800 uk.

please help. can i test any further. cant find another same componenet model to do a part swop to check.

has anyone had this issue?

OH yes. New O2 sensors, new mass airflow, new Throttle bodie, new cam position sensor, maybe time for new car.

Was told by last tech that maybe the car was jump started and burnt tranny and maybe ecu??????

I've ran across this problem a few times and it's usually condensation or its residue in the dist caps. To check loosen the 3 screws holding them and lean them forward. The really bad ones get a green oxidation, like a powder inside them. Sometimes they just carbon track. If they're bad replace the rotors as well.

Had a similar problem with my 91 500SL.. after having the coils replaced, turned out to be water in the tank. Ran some fuel system cleainer through it and started buying my gas at a different station.. runs like a charm but cost $700 for new coils I didn't need.

i'm impressed by real time suggestions from other members.

here's mine: try to give us a lead if it is fuel or ignition related.

When it starts, does it start cleanly or rough? what does the fuel pressure do?

Need more info.

Does the car have electronic injectors, or is it still a hangover from the earlier system with mechanically assisted. The easy way to tell is if it has electric plugs on the injectors.
