I have just bought a 83'380 sl and am having a problem.
It starts fine cold and now idles at about 1000 rpm ( resoldered the idle control module to eleminate high idle (1500 rpm).
Problem is that it will stall as soon as transmission loads up and is a bit hard to restart.
New plugs set at .035 but are showing black.
I can smell fuel when stalled and starting is foot to floor.
Please help as this is a present to foather and he was already pissed I bought it for him.

 

also this car was in denver but now in western new york Altitude difference ?????

 

I HAD A 380 SL SAME PROBLEM. Took to M.B. dealer, found it had a vacuum leak,

 

aside from checking for vacuum leaks, If you don't have the service records for when the wiring, rotor, cap, air filter, etc were replaced. replace or at least check before going any further. basics first.
