Talking 2000 SL500 Fuel Gauge

I just purchased a 2000 SL500 with 53,000 miles. I noticed that when I fueled the car and filled the tank the gas gauge didn't read entirely full. So I went back and slowly topped off the tank until I saw the fuel up in the filler. I drove off again and waited for a bit to see what the gauge read. It did move closer to the 1/1 full mark, but, not quite there.

What is your experience with this? This is my first SL. I was wondering if I should take it into the dealer for this? I would appreciate your feedback.

I also have recently bought a 99 SL500, and noticed the same issue, the gas gauge will not show 1/1, even when the the nozzle stops pumping.
I wonder if this is an inherent problem with the sl500.
I would like to hear from same year owners and how they have resolved this if possible

I have a 97 SL500 with the same problem, it must be inherant. However, be careful about topping up the tank. Twice now I have experienced a Check Engine Light code by doing this. The dealer stated that this is a No-No, something happens to a sensor in the emision system which then has to be cleared. Clearing this code costs approx Cdn $ 100.00 each time. I wish I could find out a simple way of clearing the CEL. Any thoughts on this?
