Has anyone any ideas for me. I have a 1991 American spec 500SL. The car was driving fine and then one day when I started it up it sounded like it was on 4 cylinders and vibrated all through the car. I managed to drive it for 4 km but it had no power and the only way I could make it change gear was to take my foot off the accelerator and then a red light came on in middle of dash. When I finally made it home the rear exhaust box was extremely hot and had very hot exhaust fumes. Another notable point was, that on starting the car there was a small of petrol.
Have a bit of an idea of the problem but would be grateful for any views and whether anyone else has had the same experience. Many thanks.

He has a 1991 500SL that had some weird ignition problems that he finallysolved (involved an MB recall cover up).
