1991 500SL No Start

The trouble began with poor running condition, stalling. Would sometimes restart immediately but run poorly and stall once again. Other times it would not restart after stalling. Would CRANK fine, but wouldn't restart until left sitting for a few hours. Now it's no start at all, cranks just fine.
I "THINK" I'm smelling fuel; i.e. no spark but has fuel getting into the cylinders. Not sure though.
Just bought this car knowing it wasn't perfect and am just now starting to experience problems...has 212K on the odometer.
Anyone have any suggestions of where to start looking for the no start problem? Figured I'd ask around before I started digging into things that are better left alone. I'm sure someone here has experienced the same type of problem and can point me in the right direction.
Thanks, y'all...

check for vacuum hose leaks. Then check plugs, distributor cap and rotor, if they need replacing use bosch plugs only and oem parts. Then try a fuel pressure test to see if the fuel pumps are good and that the injectors are not leaking. you may have to have it hauled in for the pressure test if you don't have the test equipment.
