I'm looking at a 2003 SL 55, are there any typical problem areas or service bulletins for this model/year? Also, does anyone know of a good performance and basic repair shop to take the SL 55 if I buy it in Los Angeles? I went to the dealerships and they seemed to have less of a clue than me about the car. One asked me if I am looking at an SL 55 with a manual transmission??? Doesn't this model/year only come in automatic? Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

Oh and a couple more things... the car's readout says, "memory malfunction"... anyone know what the heck that means? Is the computer shot or is it a minor issue? Would like to know before I buy the car... again, the dealership just gave me the runaround when I asked.

 

AUTOMATIC AND PADDLE SHIFTERS ON STEERING WHEEL......MEMORY MALFUNCTION PROBABLY INDICATES THAT THE TEL AID IS NOT SUBSCRIBED TO

 

On the memory malfunction issue it would be my guess also it's the Teleaide. Up until about 3 weeks ago Mercedes would not set the software to eliminate this. I informed my dealer that I had read on the internet where Mercedes had changed their policy and was allowing a software change to eliminate the malfucntion showing up. $62 later I was a happy camper.
